Ellie Baker is our HR & Operations Executive here at Global{M}. We can’t imagine Global{M} life without Ellie! She has been working with us for almost 3 years now, and she manages key operations at the company on a daily basis. Moreover, she’s not only a great professional but also a good friend to all Global{M}’ rs.
We spoke with Ellie about her career path, her everyday responsibilities, multitasking tips, and how to build a career when you are also a mom of two π
1. Hey, Ellie! I know that you have started your career in the Finance industry, what was it like to join Global{M} and move into the Talent Acquisition sector?
They are different sectors and I have definitely enjoyed working within both. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked in different environments (corporate & start-up). Generally speaking, the skills and knowledge I learned along the way have been transferable. This has meant that when it came to an Industry switch, it didn’t necessarily scare me, the challenge excited me, and I am thankful that Global{M} trusted me to take on this challenge!
I absolutely love working with people and working with start-ups. I feel that Global{M} and Talent Acquisition is perfect for me right now.

2. What are you doing at Global{M} now? Your main responsibilities?
I started at Global{M} as C-suite support, later taking on the role of HR & Operations Executive.
Operationally, I have oversight of all projects, support leadership & communicate with upper management regularly to develop operational goals. It is important for me to maintain constant communication between management, staff, and clients. I drive the company-wide OKRs & Lead, motivate, and support the team wherever needed.Β
On the HR Manager side, I am generally the go-to person for all employee-related issues.
Some of my duties involve;
- Managing staff activitiesΒ
- Supporting with recruiting and retention efforts
- Management of the Onboarding process
- Maintaining and developing effective internal procedures
- Full oversight of performance management and training & development
3. What is your multitasking secret?
This is my way of life and whilst there is no secret as such, my advice to successful multitasking is – prioritisation and good time management β°
Ellie Baker
I tend to break down tasks into bite-size chunks and prioritise them accordingly.Β
My tips for effective multi-tasking would be;
- Prioritise your tasks & break them down into manageable chunks.
- Give your full attention to the task at hand – ββwhen a task is complete, all emotional energy related to that task should be released.
- Set specific time frames for task completion – good time management is key and to help avoid feeling like you’re always running behind, schedule your tasks and add “buffer” time.
- Be effective at switching hats and changing gear.
- Stay positive π and Schedule EVERYTHING! π§π»ββοΈπ§π½
4. What is it like being an HR & Operations Executive and a mom of two? Any tips on building a career and running a family at the same time?
Hats off to all working parents! You are truly inspirational π
When it comes to being a mom and having a career, a lot of women struggle with the idea of being successful at both without feeling inadequate at either. The reality is, you can be a good mother and be good at your job. Never let yourself think you have to pick between the two. Find a great company that supports working families & be proud of your achievements π
