#DisruptingHR 2: From Startup to Scaleup to Enterprise Tech

by | Jul 20, 2017 | Events

Global {M} was recently present at the Disrupting HR 2 event hosted in the fabulous MOO office in Farringdon. The agenda for the event was pretty clear and now in its second year, a must attend if you are building a tech product to disrupt and improve the HR industry or you simply want to hear from the HR professionals themselves.

I attended along with my colleague Charlotte Watts who works on the business development side here at Global {M}. On first entering the building I was quite taken aback, the MOO offices were simply stunning and left everyone reeling with envy, we simply could not stop admiring the overall design. Later on when Ellie Collins (Global Head of Employee Experience at MOO) was touching upon happiness in MOO employees she explained that the layout and every detail in the office design was meticulously planned to encourage collaboration. Their kitchen space was right at the end of the office which meant that all the employees no matter where they were had to walk down the hallway to grab their snacks which encouraged kitchen chats, and familiarity with colleagues even if you don’t directly work with them.

The most refreshing thing about this event was how direct everyone was, no one was mincing words and you left with the key takeaways ringing in your ears.

Apart from Ellie Collins, other HR professionals speaking included JooBee Yeow (Head of People & Culture at MOO) and Sarah House-Barklie (HR Director at Aimia).

The HR professionals explained how they are inundated with sales calls and emails everyday with companies calling them with the latest solutions on how to revolutionise the HR process, they offered some wise words on how to sell to them:

  • Don’t sell to HR professionals! They are looking to form long term relationships with the right companies which can eventually lead to a sale
  • Do your research, know about the company’s needs and pain points, don’t just deliver a generic presentation, tailor your solution to them
  • HR professionals are already dealing with a lot of data and intervention’s, will adding more really help them? If yes, how can you integrate your solution with all the other technologies they are using?
  • Don’t just sell the product to the HR professional, keep in mind the needs of employees who might actually be the end users of the solution
  • Always make sure you have evidence, whether its research groups, referrals etc to provide proof that your solution can actually add real value

On the other hand, we also got to hear from some interesting companies who are looking to break into the space.

  • Luke fisher (Founder and CEO at ThanksBox) explained that his company provides a range of digital tools to maximise employee engagement. From employee recognition to digital awards through to pulse surveys and people analytics, this scaleup is covering all bases
  • Another really interesting solution was presented by Lorenza Szerman (VP Sales (Soma Analytics). Their product enables organisations to track the health and well being of their employees to help them make informed decisions about their respective work environments it also helps employees to develop mental resilience and mindfulness

Overall this was a great event to attend to meet interesting people in the HR tech space and I would certainly go again!
