Fashion Tech Bootcamp – London

by | May 9, 2017 | Events

Global {M} was lucky enough to attend the latest Fashion Tech Bootcamp, #FashHack, hosted at the Google London Campus. The event was targeted to those who are starting or currently own a Fashion Tech start-up and it was a great opportunity to gain important information regarding legal issues and business and marketing tricks. The event’s agenda was set out as it follows, including lunch, drinks and networking in between – so there was ample opportunity to meet new and exciting characters…

1. Legal Issues and traps for Fashion Tech Startups

2. Essential Business Tools Guide for Fashion Tech

3. Marketing for Fashion Tech Startups

Issues and traps for Fashion Tech Startups

Guy Wilmot was the leader of the first session of the event. He has been practicing for over 10 years and has specialised in advising entrepreneurs from start-up to exit, with a focus in intellectual property x technology, e-commerce and IT. This session explored such concepts as evaluating legal risks and ran through all the legal aspects of running a startup, the legal implications of using personal data, law and e-commerce, consumer rights and e-marketplaces, protecting your business from liability and how to protect your intellectual property and image rights, which can be very tricky in the fashion industry.

Essential Business Tools Guide for Fashion Tech

Moving on to the next session of the event, Adil Gherib gave an Essential Business Tools Guide for Fashion Tech. Adil is a digital nomad who has travelled to more than 90 countries and who co-founded (and remains COO of) MAQTOOB, while he was travelling in Bali. MAQTOOB is an online platform for entrepreneurs to search, rate and review business apps. Adil worked as a quality controller business developer at TripAdvisor and GapBuster Worldwide in the past. This talk presented the most useful and cost effective applications that entrepreneurs can benefit from, regardless of their age or IT skills.

Marketing for fashion tech start ups

Marija Butkovic covered the final session of the event, teaching attendees how to become their own digital marketing and PR specialist. Marija is a co-founder at Kisha Smart Umbrella, and she has worked in many leading tech companies and magazines, including: Wired UK, TechCrunch, Venture Beat, Financial Times, Forbes, Business Insider, London Evening Standard, Sunday Times, Urban Wearables, EnGadget, Gizmag, The Telegraph, AdWeek, BuzzFeed, Woman Magazine, Mac Life, and many more. Marija successfully covered many relevant topics such as growing your online community, doing your social media as a pro, setting your content & digital marketing strategy and organising events or approaching journalists.

Overall this was a wonderful event, organised by #FashHack, a mentoring and collaboration programme for fashion tech startups. Entrepreneurs can attend workshops and panel discussions on relevant issues, such as proof-of-concept, technology architecture and scalability, investment and broader industry trends.
