Overview

We partnered with Catawiki when they went through a period of hypergrowth and were starting to recruit Senior and Principal level Developers.

Catawiki has a Ruby stack, with a React.JS front-end. Most of the engineers that they onboard are language agnostic and can be relocated from anywhere in the world, due to the relocation package on offer at Catawiki.

Why Global {M}

Global M, have worked and recruited in the Netherlands for over 11 years, working with small to medium-sized businesses. We have a solid understanding of the local tax laws such as the 30% tax ruling for skilled foreigners, as well as the local and international companies that have software developers that fit Catawiki’s high technology bar.

We had a close relationship with the Head of Talent, James Lesner, and have worked closely with him and his recruiting team, using Greenhouse the ATS to upload and submit candidates.

Challenge

There is a three-step process at Catawiki which makes the technical bar high for Senior Developers, they must exhibit a high level of problem-solving skills, as well as coding fundamentals. Therefore it was imperative to find Software Developers who can work and think independently, and operate in this environment.

Due to them being open to receiving candidates from different development stacks to Ruby, the challenge was finding Software Developers who are language agnostic, and see the technology stack as a solution to the problem.

Approach

We met several times with James to understand the business, and the culture, as well as cultivate a clear and transparent way of working together. This ensured that he trusted the initial screening we did and we also saved time when speaking to irrelevant candidates.

We did a lot of headhunting for relevant candidates and set up searches on a range of platforms focusing on local and international candidates. Due to the competitive nature of the search, and other companies in the market, we looked for candidates that were passive or actively looking to relocate to Amsterdam.

Once the candidate was selected, we supported the offer negotiation process and assisted in closing the candidate to their start date.
